Hotel Scribe

Hotel Scribe, now run by Sofitel, is one of the most emblematic hotels in the City of Light. Opened in 1861, just as Napoleon III and Baron Haussmann were turning Paris into a modern city, this palace hotel stands on rue Scribe, in the heart of Haussmann's Paris, next to the Opéra Garnier.

The address has always been a favourite of artists, intellectuals and celebrities. It was in the Grand Café, once located on the site of the hotel, that Louis Lumière, inventor of the cinematograph, held the first public film screening in 1895. Through all its transformations, the hotel continues to honour that rich heritage: modern comfort, impeccable service and, in the kitchen, chef Martin Simolka. An escape where history and refinement meet.
