Max Linder Panorama, a cinema on boulevard Poissonnière since 1919
Paris institution

The story
The Max Linder Panorama opened on 21 March 1919 at 24 boulevard Poissonnière: the slapstick actor Max Linder, who had bought the hall in 1914, turned the Kosmorama into the Ciné Max Linder, billed as one of the most modern cinemas in Europe.
Pathé took it over in 1932 and renovated it in 1957. Its operator, Parafrance, went bankrupt in 1984. The team behind the Escurial, Vincent Minili, Brigitte Aknin, Dominique Erenfrid and Jean-Jacques Zilbermann, then bought the cinema to make it a hall for events.
Rather than divide it into small screens, they rebuilt it around a panoramic screen designed with Georges Peynet, on three levels, stalls, mezzanine and balcony, all in black velvet and paint. The first screening, on 27 November 1987, was The Last Emperor in 70 mm. Claudine Cornillat has owned it since 2004.
The last single-screen panoramic cinema on the Grands Boulevards, the Max Linder Panorama shows large-format films, 35 mm prints, previews, its Nuits au Max and, each December, the PIFFF fantastic film festival.
