Le Trianon, a venue on boulevard de Rochechouart since 1894
Paris institution

The story
Le Trianon, a venue at 80 boulevard Marguerite-de-Rochechouart, was built in 1894 in the former garden of the Élysée Montmartre, at the foot of the Butte Montmartre. First called the Trianon-Concert, it welcomed Mistinguett, La Goulue, Grille d’Égout and Valentin le Désossé the following year.
In 1900, as Fregoli was making his Paris debut, a fire destroyed the hall. Joseph Cassien-Bernard, a pupil of Charles Garnier, rebuilt it and the Trianon-Théâtre opened at the end of 1902. Renamed Théâtre Victor-Hugo in 1903, then Trianon-Lyrique, it became an operetta annexe of the Opéra-Comique in 1908. In 1936 music hall took over, with Yvette Guilbert, Fréhel and Pierre Dac.
Just before the war, cinema took over the thousand-seat hall with its two balconies; Jacques Brel was a regular in the early 1950s. Listed as a historic monument in 1988, it became a theatre again in 1992. Julien Labrousse and Abel Nahmias bought it, restored it completely in 2009 and reopened it in 2010.
The venue hosts concerts, plays, operettas, fashion shows and premieres; Rihanna sang here in 2012. On the ground floor, the Petit Trianon, an Art Deco café, reopened in 2011 after twenty years.
