The story

Carette is a tea room opened in 1927 on place du Trocadéro, between avenue Raymond-Poincaré and avenue Kléber, in the 16th arrondissement. Jean Carette and his wife Madeleine settled here that year and soon made it a meeting place for elegant Parisians.

From the till, Madeleine Carette kept watch over her small world, and her portrait still hangs on the wall of the room. Generations of regulars have come for the house pastries and its macarons, on which its reputation rests.

At the turn of the century Carette refreshed its décor while keeping its blend of classicism and Roaring Twenties spirit: pink marble pedestal tables, chandeliers, columns, gilded mouldings and tall mirrors. In April 2010 the house opened a second address under the arcades of place des Vosges, at number 25, then a third on place du Tertre.

On place du Trocadéro, the original room still welcomes its guests every day of the year, from breakfast until evening. People come for the macarons, the pastries of the sweet menu and the dishes of the savoury menu, under Madeleine Carette’s watchful portrait.
