Le Vaudeville, a brasserie on rue Vivienne since 1918
Paris institution

The story
Le Vaudeville, a brasserie on rue Vivienne, opened in 1918 opposite the Bourse. Its name goes back to 1838, when a small café beside the Théâtre du Vaudeville on place de la Bourse welcomed audiences coming to see La Dame aux camélias.
The theatre left the square after rue du Quatre-Septembre was cut through, but the café kept its name. Destroyed in a German bombing raid a few months before the armistice of 1918, it was reborn as a great brasserie. Businessmen, journalists, artists and theatre people met here between the Opéra and the Bourse.
The decor is the work of the Solvet brothers: marble, carved panelling, engraved glass, Art Deco lamps, ironwork, banquettes and mosaic floors. Jean-Paul Bucher, a former owner, worked to preserve it. The Bertrand group later took over the house, which celebrated its centenary in 2018.
Facing the Palais Brongniart, near the Opéra and the Grands Boulevards, it serves all day, from breakfast until late, seafood platters, oysters, sole meunière, calf’s liver, choucroute and grilled entrecôte, inside or on the terrace.
