The story

Aux Lyonnais, a Lyonnais bouchon on rue Saint-Marc, opened in 1890 in the Bourse district. It began as a coal, wood and wine depot run by the Fouet family, who sold their wine by the barrel on the pavement outside.

Daniel Violet later took over and turned it into a bistro devoted to the specialities of Lyon. The neighbourhood lived to the rhythm of the stock exchange, and the address became a haunt of bons vivants. The decor of floral earthenware friezes, varnished panelling and mouldings has barely changed since.

In 2002 Alain Ducasse bought the restaurant with his friend Thierry de la Brosse of L’Ami Louis. In early 2025 he sold 75 per cent of the business to the Dumant family, who placed the twins Margot and Félix Dumant in charge. The kitchen remains with chef Victoria Boller.

Between the Opéra-Comique and the Bourse, the restaurant serves the great bouchon classics: pâté en croûte, pike quenelle with crayfish, andouillette, eggs en cocotte with cream and pink praline tart, with wines from the Rhône and Beaujolais. Its private rooms host dinners for groups.
