Hôtel de Crillon, palace hotel on place de la Concorde since 1909
Paris institution

The story
The Hôtel de Crillon opened in 1909 at 10 place de la Concorde, behind the façade Ange-Jacques Gabriel designed for Louis XV in 1758. The mansion, built in 1775 by Louis-François Trouard for the Duke of Aumont, belonged to the counts and later dukes of Crillon from 1788 to 1906.
Bought in 1906 by the Société du Louvre, it was rebuilt by Walter-André Destailleur and welcomed its first guests on 12 March 1909. The Covenant of the League of Nations was signed here in 1919. Winston Churchill, Richard Nixon and Hirohito stayed, and the French team showed the World Cup from its terrace in 1998.
The Taittinger family grouped it with the Lutetia and the Martinez in 1973. César designed its bar in 1982. Closed on 31 March 2013, it was restored for four years by Aline Asmar d’Amman and her decorators, Karl Lagerfeld among them, and reopened on 5 July 2017 as a Rosewood hotel.
On place de la Concorde, at the corner of rue Boissy-d’Anglas, the hotel keeps its 18th-century historic salons. Guests take a drink at Les Ambassadeurs bar, tea in the Jardin d’Hiver, dinner at Nonos by Paul Pairet, and a swimming pool lies below ground.
