The story

La Maison du Miel, the honey shop on the Rue Vignon, was founded in 1898 by Charles Galland, then president of the French beekeepers’ union, who wanted Parisians to discover the honeys of every region of France.

In 1905 the house moved to number 24 Rue Vignon, where it still stands. Its shopfront of carved wood, painted as faux marble and gilded, bears bas-relief bees against a sun on its pillars; it was listed as a historic monument by an order of 23 May 1984, as was the floor of the shop.

More than a century later the business is still family run, and the shop has never changed its purpose. It is one of the oldest honey shops in Paris, and a second address has opened in Lyon, on the Rue Victor-Fort.

Near the Madeleine, in the 9th arrondissement, customers taste before they buy honeys from France, from around the world and organic ones, from thyme to chestnut and acacia to fir, along with mead, honey sweets, royal jelly, pollen and propolis.
