A la Mère de Famille

The Spreading Knife

€10

From À la Mère de Famille, the oldest chocolate shop in Paris, this spreading knife is made by Au Sabot, one of the oldest cutlery makers, established in 1870: two legacies of savoir-faire in one piece. The bright orange handle echoes the house's bags and boxes, and the round polished blade is engraved with its logo, the Sabot mark on the reverse.

Made for hazelnut chocolate spread or butter on a crisp baguette.

A la Mère de Famille

A la Mère de Famille has delighted sweet-toothed Parisians and visitors alike since it was founded in 1761. Set on rue du Faubourg Montmartre, in the 9th arrondissement, the historic shop is renowned as the oldest chocolaterie in the capital. People come for a remarkable selection of handcrafted chocolates, old-fashioned sweets and ice creams, today under the stewardship of the Dolfi family.

Its carefully decorated interior and warm welcome make it a treasured piece of France's gourmet heritage. Lovers of sweet things find here a touch of nostalgia and an undiminished commitment to quality: an address to recommend to anyone with a passion for confectionery, open every day.
