Musée Jacquemart-André, a collection on boulevard Haussmann since 1913
Paris institution

The story
The Musée Jacquemart-André opened to the public in 1913 at 158 boulevard Haussmann, in the mansion of Édouard André and Nélie Jacquemart, bequeathed with its collections to the Institut de France.
Heir to one of the great fortunes of the Second Empire, Édouard André had the house built by Henri Parent from 1869 to 1875, for parties and receptions. In 1881 he married the painter Nélie Jacquemart. Together they gathered paintings, sculpture, tapestries and objets d’art, with Nélie drawn to the Italian primitives and the Renaissance.
After her husband’s death in 1894, Nélie completed the future museum. On her death in 1912 she left everything to the Institut, on condition that it be opened to the public. Raymond Poincaré inaugurated the museum on 8 December 1913, and the rooms have kept their arrangement since. The Tiepolo fresco and the staircase were restored in 2023 and 2024.
On boulevard Haussmann, the visit leads from the reception rooms to the Italian collections, through temporary exhibitions, and ends at Le Nélie, the house restaurant and tea room.
