The story

Printemps Haussmann, the department store on the Boulevard Haussmann, began in 1865: on 11 May Jules Jaluzot and Jean-Alfred Duclos founded the company Au Printemps, and on 3 November they opened their store on the corner of the Rue du Havre.

In 1866 the house introduced annual sales. On 9 March 1881 a fire destroyed the building; rebuilt by Paul Sédille, it reopened on 5 March 1883 and became the model of the modern department store. Gustave Laguionie succeeded Jaluzot in 1905, René Binet led the expansion, and the Nouveaux Magasins opened in April 1910.

After a second fire in 1921, Georges Wybo led the rebuilding. The first escalators arrived in 1924, together with the animated Christmas windows. The glass of the dome was taken down in 1940 to protect it from bombing. The façades and roofs were listed as historic monuments on 15 January 1975, and the Qatar Investment Authority became the owner in 2013.

Opposite Havre-Caumartin station, the store brings together fashion and beauty, a food hall, the Printemps du Goût, opened in 2018, and since 2021 a seventh floor devoted to responsible and second-hand fashion.
